Opening of XI Morbid Film Fest edition

Morbid. The International Fantasy and Horror Film Festival opened its current official call, valid until September 1st, for authors of feature and short fiction, documentary and animation films who wish to participate in the 11th edition of this event, with themes of fantasy, horror and science fiction.

Pablo Guisa, director of Morbid, stressed that this year the festival will be held under the theme of war, since fantasy film always accompanies the fears of society and at the moment the world is quite convulsed, between nuclear war and low intensity, while in Mexico there is a civil war against drug trafficking.

In a press conference, he said that one of the news of Morbid 2018 is that all Latin American movies that have its premiere in this festival will be sent directly to sales agents, so that creators have more opportunities to sell their films.

Guisa also made a summary of these first 10 years of Morbid, which was born as a small festival in Tlalpujahua and has now become a productive platform of content with a production company, a television channel, a publishing project and a large digital range, for example.

Morbid has reached to date over 156,000 spectators, with the participation of 675 international guests from 32 countries and more than 500 screenings, an achievement for a self-financed festival, he said.

In addition, Pablo Guisa announced that the alliance signed last December between Morbid and Mónica Lozano, one of the most important film production companies in Mexico with more box office movies, is ready to begin operations.

He pointed out that the reception and selection of film scripts interested in obtaining financing for their production will begin shortly and the requirements can be consulted through the e-mail address morbidofilms@mundomorbido.com.

Although, he said, the evaluation of projects will begin in 2018, it will be until the second half of 2019 when the shooting of the selected film scripts will begin.

Another of Mórbido's launches this year is the online store under the MOD scheme, merchandise on demand, where the public can purchase several items such as sheets, rugs and personalized tennis shoes, to satisfy the lifestyle of fans of fantasy and horror movies.

Pablo Guisa also announced that the TV channel Mórbido TV will arrive in Argentina with new content such as Mórbido News, a weekly segment hosted by Andrea Cardona, as well as the program Kronico.

All these novelties that the International Horror and Fantasy Film Festival will have in its 11th edition were revealed during the opening of Nabs D's Morbid Tarot exhibition, which will be on display at the Pantheon Cultural Center until April 29th.

It is a series of acrylics of the major arcana that the artist made specifically for Morbid, macabre images with titles as suggestive as The lovers, The wheel of fortune, Justice, Death and The devil, whose presentation was accompanied by a tarot reading for everyone concerned.
