February 08, 2018

With the participation of over 40 poets from Spain, Venezuela, Uruguay, Ecuador, Costa Rica and Mexico, the 14th Ibero-American Poetry Meeting Carlos Pellicer Cámara will be held from February 13 to February 16 in Villa Hermosa, Tabasco.

The gathering will include free activities such as book reading, lectures, book presentations, workshops, editors' forum, pictorial exhibitions and a poetic recital.

The inaugural ceremony will take place on Tuesday, February 13, at 19:00 p.m., at the Antonio Ocampo Ramírez Art Gallery, in the city of Villahermosa, where the Latin American Prize for Fine Arts of Poetry Carlos Pellicer will be awarded for Published Works to Luis Cortés Bargalló. This was announced by Antonio de la Fuente Mora, editorial and literature coordinator of the State Institute of Culture in Tabasco.

The meeting organized by the IECT will begin on Tuesday 13, at 17:30 pm, at the Regional Museum of Anthropology Carlos Pellicer Cámara, with the talk between the award-winning Luis Cortés Bargalló and Eduardo Langagne.

Among the international guests are: Juan Carlos Abril (Spain), Nérvinson Machado (Venezuela), Saúl Ibargoyen (Uruguay), Verónica Durán (Ecuador) and Víctor León Leitón (Costa Rica).

Representing the national sphere: Ana Belén López and Daniela Camacho (Sinaloa); Cynthia Alarcón Múgica and José Homero (Veracruz); Eduardo Langagne and Vivián Mansour (Mexico City); Lucía Rivadeneyra and Armando Salgado (Michoacán) and Luis Cortés Bargalló (Baja California).

There will be eight venues that will open its doors for this meeting, among them: Carlos Pellicer Cámara Regional Museum of Anthropology; Antonio Ocampo Ramírez Art Gallery; Centro de Estudios e Investigación de las Bellas Artes (CEIBA); José Gorostiza House of Arts; El Jaguar Despertado Art Gallery; Parque Museo de La Venta; as well as institutions of higher education and Museo del Dulce (Jalapa).

As part of the meeting two exhibitions were prepared, the first one titled Todo será posible menos llamarte Carlos (Everything is possible but calling you Carlos), at the Museo de Historia of Tabasco, Casa de los Azulejos a photographic exhibition belonging to the Historical Archive of the Executive Branch of the State of Tabasco.

The second one, Carlos Pellicer Cámara’s Retrospective, another photographic exhibition from the museum's collection, will be also on display. Both exhibitions will remain open until February 28 from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

In the task of generating cultural exchange and strengthening the literary artistic feedback of the entity, Antonio de la Fuente pointed out that this year priority was given to the participation of 29 local poets, with the aim of making their work known, being a good platform for them to emerge within the poetic sphere.

While acknowledging that poetry readers are smaller than those of other genres, such as the novel, the editorial coordinator stressed that the poetry in Tabasco is at a good time, especially because of the response that has been found in young people.

“However, I think that the great task ahead will be to reach out to more audiences through permanent work and perhaps to rethink the way in which this Ibero-American Meeting is being held, which is important and must be maintained, but perhaps to be able to modify it in order to reach more audiences”.

He added that, at the beginning, it would be very good to pause and reconsider to take advantage of new technologies, such as social networks, "imagine having on Twitter the poetry of our own guests and everyone can share it. Like this one, to propose other strategies that take advantage of the resources we have, not only that it be reading in front of us”.
