February 01, 2018

The award was created as an initiative of the Sports International Tours Travel Agency to publicize and spread the places where the best events are held and the runners and the world’s population cannot miss to know and tour every corner of Mexico.

The prize-giving ceremony took place on Wednesday, January 31 in Punto Mexico, located on the ground floor of the central building of the Department of Tourism.

Participants were Karla Gutiérrez Ahrensburg, head of Sports Marketing for the Tourism Promotion Council of Mexico, Jesús Ernesto Bravo, director general of Sports International Tours and runners Madaí Pérez Carrillo and José Cruz Cleto Mancinas.

The Rarámuri Awards 2017 are supported by the Department of Tourism, the Tourism Promotion Council and the Federal Program Travel Todos por México (All for Mexico).

In the event, 25 prizes were awarded in the categories Marathons, Half Marathons, 10K Race, Trail or Mountain Race and Thematic or Non-Conventional Race.

Two special awards were also given to the best marathon runners in 2017, who are also the exponents of Sports Tourism at local, regional, national and international level: Madaí Pérez Carrillo and Daniel de Jesús Vargas Sánchez.

The winners were:

In Marathons: Mexico City Marathon, Monterrey Marathon, Lala International Marathon, Great Pacific Marathon and Guadalajara Marathon.

When giving the awards, Jesús Ernesto Bravo said that the prizes were created to recognize the best organizers of sporting events.

“To all those people who with their activities in 2017 represented the Sports Tourism at national, local, regional and international level”.

“What we do with these awards is to promote and publicize the place where the event takes place and get involved so that the event goes the best possible. In addition, to facilitate the organizers held their events because it is a very great expense for the entity that carries it out.”

While on receiving her award, Madaí Pérez Carrillo said she was happy because it is a prize that recognizes running,"which is such a normal activity, so natural, that it can be done anywhere, city or country”.
