PNSL mediators to represent Mexico

The Department of Culture will share successful practices to promote reading at the Pontevedra Book Fair

January 24, 2018

With the purpose of recognizing and disseminating, outside the country, successful experiences in promoting reading, and showing the world the method in which Mexico makes culture a way for the transformation, cohesion, social inclusion and prevention of violence, the Department of Culture of the Federal Government invites mediators of the National Reading Rooms Program (PNSL, for its acronym in Spanish) to attend the XIX Children’s and Youth Book Fair in Pontevedra, Spain, to be held from April 6 to April 29.

The call for Mediators of Reading Rooms at the Pontevedra Book Fair, issued in accordance with the Program for Book and Reading Promotion, will choose two promoters registered in the Single Register of Mediators (RUM, for its acronym in Spanish), who have at least two years of continuous activity, current reading room and monthly updated reports, and have valuable experiences to promote reading and ease of sharing them with professionals and public.

To aspire to be selected, the mediators must, among other requirements, describe the way in which their reading room emerged and what are the benefits it has brought to their community; also to tell an episode, event or testimony arising from the room, revealing reading as an essential factor of identity and community cohesion, as well as actions they have carried out, related to promoting reading, citizen participation, books and reading.

They must also list five successful activities that the reading room has carried out under their charge in public spaces (it will not be valid as an invited mediator or have participated in a major program), and be available to travel to Pontevedra, Spain, between April 5 and April 12.

The mediators chosen to represent Mexico will undertake to disseminate the PNSL and the strategic reading promotion programs, as well as to give workshops, talks and reading mediation sessions. During their stay they will also share their work in public squares and open forums.

The call is valid until Friday, February 16, and participants who do not meet all requirements at the time of registration, will be automatically disqualified.

An evaluation committee made up of specialists in the field will review the information sent and, based on their background, experience and commitment, the two mediators will be chosen to travel to Pontevedra, Spain. The expenses of transportation, accommodation and meals will be covered by the organizers.

Registration of participants will only be done electronically to karizmendi@cultura.gob.mx, or via e-mail through the PNSL links in the states.
