Secretary of Culture, Maria Cristina García Cepeda participated in the XXIX Meeting of Ambassadors and Consuls

Secretary of Culture, María Cristina García Cepeda, participated in the XXIX Meeting of Ambassadors and Consuls on Tuesday January 9, at the invitation of the secretary of Foreign Affairs, Luis Videgaray Caso, held at the headquarters of the Department of Foreign Affairs, where she gave the conference, Culture as a tool of diplomacy.

Garcia Cepeda acknowledged the support of the international community and the solidarity of the sister nations that joined the call of society for our heritage affected by last year's earthquakes.

Secretary of Culture reminded that, in collaboration with the Mexican Agency for International Cooperation for Development, solidarity was received from friendly countries and regions for the reconstruction of heritage, historical and artistic buildings that suffered damage, which is actively working with other international organizations such as UNESCO and its office in Mexico, among others.

She pointed out the visit of specialists from the European Union and Hungary in 2017 and said that the French delegation of specialists arrived in Mexico this week to work together with the Department of Culture in sites of the Historic Center and Xochimilco of Mexico City and Puebla.

García Cepeda affirmed that the agreements with international institutions will allow, during 2018, important exhibitions in the world: Visions of the Hispanic world, with works by the Hispanic Society, at the Palace of Fine Arts, as well as the exhibition Kandinsky, with pieces of museums from Great Britain and Russia . Also, the Museo Tamayo will showcase Listening with the Eyes: Sound Art from Spain, with works from the Spanish Foundation Juan March and the Museo Nacional de Antropología, will show In the footsteps of the Bhuda, with works from American funds.

"Mexico will continue to show its culture to the world. Teotihuacán, City of water, City of fire, is now on display in San Francisco and will arrive later in Los Angeles. Two exhibitions about Frida Kahlo will be presented at the Royal Palace in Milan, Italy, and at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Golden Kingdoms, a showcase of pre-Columbian cultures, is currently at the Paul Getty Museum and later will be at the Museum of Modern Art in New York”.

Juan Manuel Gómez Robledo, Ambassador of Mexico in France thanked the Secretary of Culture for her support to present in that country important exhibitions that spread Mexican culture, including Los Modernos: dialogue France/Mexico, which is currently successfully exhibited in the city of Lyon with pieces by great artists such as Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo.

 Diego Gómez Pickering, Mexico's consul general in New York, celebrated the support of the Department of Culture for taking the exhibition Cristóbal de Villalpando. Mexican baroque painter to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York as well as the arrangements to return Luis de Carvajal’s emblematic manuscript, the first Jewish document written in America, to Mexico.

Blanca Alcalá, Ambassador of Mexico in Colombia, highlighted the opportunity to further strengthen cultural ties between the two countries during the celebration of the Dual Year Mexico-Colombia with many projects, exhibitions and artistic presentations.

Finally, Mexico's ambassador to Peru, Ernesto Campos, thanked the Department of Culture for its support to take the exhibition Orozco, Rivera and Siqueiros. Modernity in Mexico 1910-1966 to that country, besides confirming the presence of our country as guest of honor at the Lima Book Fair with a stand that attracted thousands of people to spread the best of our literature.
