The movie Deseo, deseo, nominated for Best Ibero-American Feature Film at the Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre Festival

December 04, 2017

Mexican director Eduardo M. Clorio’s debut Deseo, deseo, will arrive at the 18th edition of the Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre Terror, Fantasy, Bizarre Film Festival that will be held until December 10 in Argentina.

The movie is nominated for Best Ibero-American Feature Film and will be screened on Friday  December 8 at 22:00 hours, and on Saturday December 9 at 16:00 hours in the Multiplex Lavalle.

Deseo, deseo is a horror movie that tells the story of five cousins who discover in their grandmother's house (who has just passed away) a board game that will fulfill their deepest desires, they just have to be prepared to lose the most valuable thing in their lives.

In an interview with the Department of Culture, Eduardo M. Clorio said that this is a fun, fresh, dynamic horror movie with a lot of black humor.

"It's a movie in which you see that, if five people are locked up in a house, with a diabolical game, something is going to end up wrong. The game is very fun, you make a wish and it asks you for a payment that looks very innocent, you do it and it turns out it's a trap and then turns all the cousins against it”.

“It's a movie that has scares and a monster, all those elements that may seem clichés, but it's also sheltered by a story that's funny. So it's a movie that you have fun with and time passes fast because it’s a movie for fun”.

The movie was produced in 2016 and premiered in 2017; it lasts 83 minutes and stars Israel Amezcua, Fitzgerald Navarro, Karla Rodríguez, Norma Mora and Iván Mondragón.

The movie has been successfully presented at several festivals: Mexico, Morbid Film Fest and Morbid Mérida (where it won the Audience Award); Spain, Hemoglozine and Orlando at the Freak Show Horror Film Festival, where it won the Best Film Award.

According to Eduardo M. Clorio, the movie has already been sold and will be screened in movie theaters in 2018 in the Philippines, Vietnam and China. It is also selected to participate in two large and important festivals and will be present between 10 and 12 more.

However, Clorio pointed out that the movie has distribution problems in Mexico so the public will have to wait for its commercial premiere.

“We hope that with the international sales we can distribute it and we are looking for investors to show it in cinemas. The distributors in Mexico have seen it and it seems they love it and they find it very entertaining but they don't find a way to sell it because the market is very complicated and competition with the United States is the main factor.”

The other problem is that it doesn't have famous actors because they are all young people who are starting their careers and although they have already participated in other movies and theatre, they are not famous faces in which distributors are interested, he added.

“We have been offered to shoot it again and the truth is that we have tried to avoid this point because we want people in Mexico to see it as we did, because it has had a very good reaction from the public where it has been presented. Distributors like it because it's good and fun, the problem is that they don't find a way to sell it and, therefore, they don't have a reason to risk their money”.
