August 29, 2017

With seven French movies, 25 Mexican short films and a tour of 74 cities in Mexico, the 21st French Film Tour will take place from September 8 to October 29 in the presence of director Cédric Klapisch until September 3.

In a press conference, Cristina Prado, director of Cultural Cinematographic Promotion of Imcine celebrated that each edition of the Tour is strengthened year after year, capturing more than 350,000 attendees in 2016.

She said that this edition will also be a promotional platform for 25 short films supported by the Mexican Institute of Cinematography, which can be enjoyed before each performance of the selection of French feature films in more than a hundred Cinépolis movie theaters in the country.

"This is the twelfth time we've made this strategic good work to give a space to Mexican short films that can reach the public as part of Imcine's decentralization projects. It is important to say that most of the short films were made by directors from the interior of the Republic.

During the conference, Cristina Prado and actress Claudia Ramírez announced the winner of the Silver Palmita, which is for Alejandra Castellanos' short film Poliangular.

Benoit Therese, cultural coordinator of the Federation of French Alliances, said that this tour fulfills the purpose of linking culture with the Mexican people and for this purpose 31 alliances of the Republic will be united to promote this tour.

"We want to create a dialogue between our cultures and contribute to making the Mexican filmmakers’ work known to the public. The best thing about this tour is its eclectic style where all kinds of plots are present to show what unites us as nations.

Clementine Mourao Ferreira, Audiovisual attaché of the French embassy in Mexico, celebrated the 28% increase in the number of spectators of this tour, which is already immersed in the taste of Mexican movie buffs.

"For over two decades, a niche has been created in the Mexican public. In 2016, Mexico ranked second among countries outside Europe where more French movies were seen”.

She pointed out that of the seven French movies presented, five of them are directed by women, which speaks of a global trend in which the female sector is building a new voice in cinematography.

Regarding the presence of filmmaker Cedric Klapisch, who will be in our country until September 3, she mentioned that his movie The Vineyard that unites us will be presented as part of the tour, but also on Thursday August 31st he will hold a master class at the IFAL Cinema headquarters in Rio Nazas 43.

The French movies that will be presented in this year's edition are Even More Beautiful by Anne-Gaëlle Daval ; The Midwife by Martin Provost; Frantz by Francois Ozon; The Exes by Maurice Barthelemy; Step by Step by Grand Corps Malade and Mehdi Idir; The fabulous Patars by Sophie Reine.

Before each movie, one of the 25 Mexican short films will be shown at the Imcine, including Al otro lado by Rodrigo Álvarez; Amor Plástico by Luis Lance; Ataraxia, by Guillermo Vejar; El balón de oro by Martín Valverde; El Grifo, by Dan Chávez; La secta de los insectos by Pablo Calvillo; Leche by Gilberto González; Montañistas, by Romy Tatiana; Polvo Blanco, by Silverio Palacios; Polvo de estrellas, by Aldo Soteli; Semillas de Guanuchil, by Carolina Cirral; Hambre, by Alejandro Montalvo, Poliangular by Alejandra Castellanos y Desaparecido, by Carlos Trujano, among others.
