From August 24 to August 31 with 89 films in competition

The Monterrey International Film Festival returns with several surprises

The 13th edition of the Monterrey International Film Festival will be held from August 24 to August 31 with 89 feature films and short films in competition, as well as tributes, round tables, lectures and activities about the film industry.

The details were given at the press conference attended by Juan Manuel González, director of the festival; Cristina Prado, Director of Cultural Promotion of the Mexican Institute of Cinematography, Edel Campos and Sofía Espinoza, producer and actress of the movie The Room to be presented in a gala at the festival.

 Juan Manuel González, director of the festival, said that this edition will have several surprises such that the public can vote directly to choose the movies that will be awarded as Audience Award and Best International Film.

This year, he said, as part of the festival, there will be a tribute to the actress Dolores Heredia, in addition to the series of lectures Ten years of doing industry, with the participation of the Mexican Institute of Cinematography.

 Among the films to be presented there are: America square, by Yannis Sakardis; There are lightnings behind, by Julián Hernández; Brigsby Bear, by Dave McCary; Have a nice day, by Liu Jian; Down by love, by José Corral; Hail Mary by Aleksandra Wit and The bald future by Paul Cabon.

 In addition, round tables will be held to discuss the themes of Training and development, Infrastructure, Fiscal incentives and State funds for production, and Development of participation networks.

 Cristina Prado, director of the Cinematographic Cultural Promotion of the Imcine, said that this festival has already gained an important place for its promotion strategies that focus on promoting the best of Mexican cinema.

"For many years the Nuevo Leon Council of Arts has been an ally to concretize projects and to disseminate activities of our cinematography”.

In this sense, she celebrated the organization of the Norestense Encounter of Women in the Cinema for the second consecutive year with the projection of movies such as Una prima by Agus Martina and Porcelana by Betzabé García.

Prado said that the book Miradas del cine mexicano compiled by Aurelio de los Reyes will be presented at the festival, which is a reference of the most relevant works of our cinematography, as well as glimpsing its future as a cultural industry.

 Juan Manuel González said that the selection of movies is divided into five feature films, 36 short films with three feature films and nine short films specifically made in Nuevo León.

 He also mentioned that the 10th anniversary of the State Student Film Festival will be held in which 21 short films were chosen, 11 of them made by students from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León.

 "The first place will receive a prize of 35,000 pesos in addition to being selected in the program of the Intravenosa University Film Festival in Cali, Colombia."

Finally, he added that as an activity prior to the Monterrey International Ballet Gala, the national premiere of the documentary Anatomy of a male ballet dancer, directed by David Barba and James Pellerito will be projected.

 Edel Campos, producer of the movie, The room that will be presented as part of the festival, said that it will be an honor to present this production in the event because it deals with very important themes of Mexico’s history, all in the universe of a hotel room.
