La 4° compañía, winner movie of the Arieles night

With the accompaniment of live drums and an original duet of animators on paper who drew each category of the night and decorated on a screen the speeches of the winners, the 59th Ariel Awards ceremony was held at the Palace of Fine Arts. The movie La 4° compañia won 10 awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor.

The Secretary of Culture, María Cristina García Cepeda, was present and through her Twitter account she congratulated the winners and recognized the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences for the organization of the ceremony and for representing Mexican cinema with care.

 Dolores Heredia, director of the AMACC, said that it is necessary to establish public policies in which the citizens of our country choose the cinema that want to see and defend the bond that unites the creators with the public, opening the markets with laws of regulation according to our reality.

"We are connected by the profession and the passion for what we do, we must unite to defend the future of cinema and audiovisual, as well as cultural rights in our great nation”.

During the night, the main awards for Best Picture and Best Actor went to La 4° compañía and Adrian Ladrón. Best Director for Tatiana Huezo, for the movie Tempestad that also was awarded in the category of Best Documentary Feature.

The filmmaker used the gratitude to recognize the quality that has reached the documentary genre in our country that, along with the fiction cinema, conquers audiences with themes that portray our reality.

  

The Best Actor award was shared with José Carlos Ruiz for the movie Almacenados and the Best Actress, went to Veronica Langer for La Caridad.

 

Best Supporting Actress was for Adriana Paz, also for La caridad and Best Supporting Actor was for Hoze Meléndez for Almacenados.

 Best Photography award went to Ernesto Bravo for Tempestad, while the Best Debut Feature prize went to Federico Cecchetti for El sueño de Mara'akame.

The Golden Arieles of the night were given to Isela Vega and Lucero Isaac for their respective careers. The first who showed a strong personality and sense of humor, was given a standing ovation by the captivated public for almost 10 minutes.

 Lucero Isaac, along with her granddaughter, thanked the directors, photographers, actors and set designers who have participated with her throughout her career in which, apart from being an actress she has been one of the most respected art directors.

The Best Male Newcomer award was for Paco de la Fuente for El alien y yo and the Best Female Newcomer was given to Maria Evoli for Tenemos la carne.

The Ariel for Best Ibero-American Picture was for the movies El ciudadano ilustre and Una segunda madre, while the Best Original Screenplay went to Joaquin Del Paso and Lucy Pawlak for Maquinaria panamericana.

Other awards were Best Adapted Screenplay for David Desola por Almacenados; Best Visual Effects for Ricardo Rojo for La 4° compañía; Best Special Effects for Luis Gerardo Ambriz for La 4° compañía and Best Original Music for Emiliano Motta for El sueño de Mara'akame

The Arieles were also awarded for Best Sound for Tempestad and La 4° compañía, Best Edition for Mitzi Rivera for La 4° compañía, Best Fiction Short Film for El ocaso de Juan by Omar Deneb, Best Documentary Short Film for Aurelia y Pedro and Best Animation Short Film for Los Aeronautas by León Fernández.
