Elisa Carrillo will dedicate a presentation to Amalia Hernández in Fine Arts

Mexican dancer Elisa Carrillo will return to our country accompanied by great figures of the ballet as part of the gala Elisa and friends 2017, which will be held on July 13th at 20:00 p.m. in the main hall of the Palace of Fine Arts.

In a press conference via Skype, the first dancer of the Staatsballet, Berlin announced that on this occasion the program will pay homage to Amalia Hernández, icon of folkloric dance.

For this reason, special pieces such as the Deer Dance and Sones de Michoacán will be set up, in which Elisa Carrillo will share the stage with members of the Mexican Folk Ballet Amalia Hernández, in what will be one of the main surprises of the show.

"This year we dedicate the gala, as part of her 100th birth anniversary. She was a woman who gave the name to the Mexican folkloric ballet and took it all over the world. Folkloric ballet is our roots, it is something that we must be very proud of and do not forget how valuable and beautiful it is. So we want to pay homage to everything she left us”, she said from Berlin.

She said that after six years of galas, it has already become a tradition, so we always look forward to do something different to offer the Mexican public.

"One of the goals of the Elisa Carrillo Foundation is to promote dance and culture through these galas, so we have an interesting and different program year after year”.

She mentioned that 15 companies have been so far part of the galas, in addition, they have brought to Mexico over four complete works as La Esmeralda and Infinita Frida.

"We have taken the work of 37 different choreographers and over 50 choreographies have been performed by different ballet stars. It is an effort that has made the public grow and every year we wait with great enthusiasm”.

Classical and neoclassical pieces such as the pas de deux of Joyas, Onegin, The Nutcracker, Simple Things, The Corsair, Voices of Spring, The Pharaoh's Daughter, Spartacus, Stars and Stripes, Sonata and Don Quixote will also be performed.

Two choreographies will be presented for the first time in Mexico, Elegía and El sofá, a dance-theater proposal by Israeli choreographer Itzik Galili, one of the most recognized worldwide, who will also visit our country.

Lovers of dance will have the opportunity to enjoy the performance of dancers from companies such as the Bolshoi Ballet, Mariinski Ballet, Munich Ballet, New York City Ballet, Staatsballet Berlin, Staatsballet Karlsruhe and Staatsballet Ukraine.

Participating Aleksandr Stoianov, first dancer of the Ballet of the National Opera of Ukraine; Ashley Bouder, first dancer of the New York City Ballet; Evgenia Obraztsova, first dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet; Kateryna Kukhar, first dancer of the Ballet of the National Opera of Ukraine and Maria Shirinkina, first dancer of ballets Marrinski and Munich.

Also, Rafaelle Queiroz, first dancer of the Staatsballet Karsruje; Semyon Chudin, first dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet; Vladimir Shklyarov, first dancer of the ballets Mariinski and Munich; Zhi Le Xu, first dancer of the Staatsballet Karlsruhe; Michael Banzhaf, soloist of the Berlin Staatsballet and international star Joseph Gatti.

The Mexican dancer said that more and more colleagues are looking to integrate into the galas, due to its success among the public. "The important thing is not only to bring the beauty of the dance closer but also the dancers see the beauty of our country”.

A day before the gala, Elisa Carrillo will give a master class in the framework of the 2017 National Encounter of Dance and that same day, MIkhail Kaniskin, first dancer of the Berlin Opera, will offer a master class.

"Teaching is very important and involves a lot of responsibility. It will be a class where the important thing is to transmit to the young people the motivation to get ahead, so that they fly”.

The winner of the Best Couple Award at the XII International Dance Open Festival in St. Petersburg, announced that Elisa y amigos 2017 will arrive in the city of Toluca on July 8th; on the 9th in Texcoco and for the first time in Puebla on July 14th.

Elisa Carrillo has also been awarded the Medal of Fine Arts and the Gold Medal of the International Festival of Mayan Culture in 2016. In 2013, she created the Elisa Carrillo Cabrera Foundation, to support talented children for dance and arts.
