June 06, 2017

In the final stage of the Germany-Mexico Dual Year, which will end next June 10th, Radio Educación lists the broadcasts of Radio Fassbinder, a production that will present for the first time  five works in Spanish written for radio by German filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder.

This is a production of radio theater, made by Radio Educación and the Goethe Institute, in which the audience will be able to listen to the works: Nobody is good and no one is bad, An experiment on science fiction; All in white; The family council; Preparadise sorry now and its peculiar adaptation to Ifigenia in Tauride by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

During the live performance of the first of these radio theaters (Nobody is good and no one is bad), carried out at the Goethe Institute, Marisol Argüelles, coordinator of International Cultural Promotion of the Department of Culture, said that this project will mark a before and an after in the collaboration between Mexico and Germany.

She stood out that the translation, production and editing of this series will allow the Mexican public to know one of the least visible facets of one of the most outstanding creators of the 20th century German culture, a master of a genuine style of writing and directing, which has made us understand better through his work, the Germany of today.

She celebrated that this is one of the many joint projects that have been carried out throughout the Dual Year, which began in June 2016 in Germany with a great exhibition of Mayan culture and in Mexico with a concert of the youth orchestras of both countries, in this case to discover the great importance of Fassbinder, one of the most important thinkers and critics of his time.

Meanwhile, Jenny Mügel, coordinator of the Dual Year Germany-Mexico, was excited to be able to present, at the end of this great cooperation project, this series that took more than a year and a great effort of preparation adding over 1,300 scheduled events.

Hilda Saray, Director of Production and Planning of Radio Educación, said that bringing Fassbinder's work to the radio has been a challenge and that this series of radio theaters is a unique opportunity that, thanks to the support of the Goethe Institute, it will be transmitted throughout the country through the public broadcasters in each of the states.

Radio Fassbinder is a production of Sonia Riquer, who described as an adventure the execution of this series 35 years after the German author´s death who, she said, although he was not a mass filmmaker, he managed to touch a lot of people.

She pointed out that the series begins with Nobody is good and no one is bad because it is a piece that defines much the idea of life that the author had, a man without prejudice, who was not afraid to expose himself, in whose work the opposites like: love and hate, creation and destruction are always present.

The series has been translated by Claudia Cabrera, who commented that it was a challenge since they are complex texts that deal with fascism and were made in a specific time in West Germany. So she tried to transfer that feeling and that historical and political baggage of the postwar period to the Mexican variant of Spanish.

Finally, the stage director Fernando Alvarez Rebeil also said that these are very complicated works, whose radio setting has been a very interesting experience and in which he decided to work with friends, as Fassbinder did.

The radio drama of these works is carried out by a company of professional actors specially created for this project, made up of Claudette Maillé, Pablo Pérez, Mariana Villegas, Lucía Uribe and Fernando Álvarez himself. It also has rubrics and incidental music by maestro Felipe Pérez Santiago.

Radio Fassbinder will be made up of 10 programs with a duration of 30 minutes each in which, besides offering to its audiences the possibility of listening for the first time and performed in Spanish, the pieces written for radio by the prolific filmmaker, it will include a biodata of the main representative of the new German cinema.
