From March 17th to 19th at Playa Chacaltita

Chapala will host the 7th International Jazz Festival

March 16, 2017

For the first time, the International Jazz Festival departs from its former home, Mexico City, to move to Chapala, Jalisco, where it is intended to be its new location since this seventh edition that will take place from March 17th to 19th.

This new period boasts the participation of 12 local, national and international groups led by Waldo Madera Quintet, Gordon Goodwin from the United States and Bosquejo en Riesgo, from Costa Rica, thanks to the joint work of the City Council of Chapala and Musbi, La música en el Bicentenario A.C., Director of Culture of Chapala, Sergio Unzueta Flores reported.

The festival features various jazz ensembles and subgenres ranging from blues, Jewish music, funk soul and the big bands, standing out Rafael Terríquez’s Big Band, a group born in Chapala.

"Chapala has a great tradition of musicians of all genres, but very especially in jazz, so the show comes to Chapala through Chucho López, one of the greats of jazz, with the participation of local artists”.

For three days, free concerts will be offered from 7 pm at Playa Chacaltita (Malecón de Chapala), "a somewhat magical place for people, because of the landscape, the tradition and the natural scenery on the lake shore, suitable for fusion with jazz”.

All events will be free, so the culture director’s advice is to arrive early to get a good place. "The capacity of Chacaltita is about 10,000 people, so our expectation is to reach an attendance of 25,000 people”.

One of the indicators to ensure a great capacity, is that three days before the opening the hotels announce a 95 percent occupancy, which indicates that the event will be well received.

"We will request 'Musbi'  the exhibition will remain in Chapala, this edition will be an acid test and it is the ideal moment for both artists and organizers to be happy with the work and stay here”.

"Musbi." La música en el Bicentenario, A.C. was created in 2009 by musicians performing the popular genre, being its main purpose to promote culture with one of the most beautiful arts, the music.

In spite of the recent formation of the association, agreements have been signed with the Federal Department of Culture and the Theater System of Mexico City, under the government of the Federal District.
