Secretary of Culture, Maria Cristina García Cepeda, held a working meeting with the German delegation

The movie exchange between Mexico and Germany, the collaboration of our country in the Humboldt Forum, a space currently being built in Berlin, and the agreements between both nations to protect against illicit trafficking in cultural property were some of the themes addressed this day, during the working meeting between the Department of Culture and the German delegation that visits our country.

Secretary of Culture, Maria Cristina García Cepeda received Monika Grütters, delegate of the federal government for Culture and the Media and deputy minister before the Federal Chancellor; Viktor Elbling, German ambassador to Mexico, as well as Dieter Kossslick, general director of the Berlin Film Festival.

García Cepeda said that Germany and Mexico are nations with a historical link whose ties and coincidences allow to continue building bridges of collaboration together, and also she emphasized the achievements reached in the Mexico-Germany Dual Year.

Monika Grütters pointed out that a few months ago, the German Congress approved the rules set by UNESCO in 1970 on the protection of cultural property in order to prevent illicit trafficking. An action in which a close communication with our country will continue to enrich the new law, which was mentioned during this meeting where also participated experts from the National Institute of Anthropology and History and the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Regarding the Humboldt Forum, a space that is being built in Berlin and which aims to be a museum that will dialogue with the world, the delegate of the Federal Government of Germany for Culture and the Media said that experts from different countries participate in this space which will contribute alongside Mexico to an exchange through an extensive program of activities that will be framed with the presentation of over 500 pre-Hispanic pieces confirming our country’s richness.

The attendees stressed that as part of the Dual Year and after the success in Germany of the exhibition The Maya: The language of beauty, a display about German rock painting will be presented at the National Museum of Anthropology during June, and the show Horseman, performed by the Center of production of contemporary dance of INBA at the Hamburg Center for the Arts.

 Finally, regarding the movie exchange between the two countries, ambassador Viktor Elbling said that in the recent edition of the Berlin Film Festival, Mexican filmmakers, once again gave great surprises and strengthened their presence in Europe with numerous awards, which opens doors to new co-productions, as well as support projects such as the Talent Campus, awarded to new filmmakers since 2008 at the Guadalajara Festival.

The Secretary of Culture expressed that these initiatives and lines of work strengthen the relationship between the two countries and weave a path to the future, which will enhance the richness of two peoples with historic ties of friendship.
