Accompanied by the Choir of Madrigalistas of Fine Arts

The Freiburg Baroque Orchestra conquers the public at the Palace of Fine Arts with Beethoven Symphony No.9·

The Mexican public had the chance to witness the evening of Tuesday, October 11th, the sound, the dynamics and the resonance that originally conceived Ludwig van Beethoven with Symphony No.9, which is considered one of the great cathedrals of world music, and was performed with fervor and technical excellence by the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, which audience applauded at the Palace of Fine Arts for over 10 minutes.

 Secretary of Culture, Rafael Tovar y de Teresa, was present at the concert where the orchestra, under the baton of Gottfried von der Goltz, performed the six movements of Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125, with the Choir of Madrigalistas of Fine Arts, who made the Main Hall vibrate with the legendary Ode to joy.

With the hall of the palace completely full, musicians and director were received with the applause from the audience for the interpretation of the epic movement Allegro ma non troppo, then listen the Molto vivace and the Adagio molto e cantabile, which was complemented with Presto, allegro assai, presto.

 At the time of starting the expected interpretation of the famous Ode to Joy, tenor Werner Gura came on stage, accompanied by bass Thomas E. Bauer, soprano Johanna Winkel and mezzo-soprano Anke Vondung.

 After their first performance, the singers joined the Choir of Madrigalistas of Fine Arts, to lead the voices that frame one of the best known works of world music and for many represented the last Beethoven’s legacy to the world, finishing it completely deaf and poor, but singing his desire of hope and brotherhood among men.

The final notes of director Gottfried von der Goltz’s forceful baton marked the end of the piece and the cheers of everyone attending the Main Hall.

The audience cheered and applauded for 10 minutes in a tribute by Mexicans to this monumental effort that united the talents of two nations and showed the excellence of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, one of the new musical houses of immortal Ludwig van Beethoven .
