Art and culture in 100 Edomex spaces plus Valle de Bravo

The XIV Festival of Souls 2016 is preparing to receive artists from six countries

The XIV Festival of Souls 2016 schedule was announced on Tuesday September 20th; this edition  will offer 662 free activities from October 28th to November 5th, in 24 forums at Pueblo Mágico in Valle de Bravo and over 100 secondary venues of Mexico State with local, national and international artists from Cuba, Argentina, Spain, England, the United States and Mexico.

The General Director of Cultural Linkage of the Department of Culture, Antonio Crestani, stressed the importance of the gathering that with its wide variety of music, opera, theater, dance, literature, film, visual arts, gastronomy, monumental parade and academic activities will contribute to the diffusion of Mexico’s artistic and cultural expressions.

 Highlighting the joint actions made together with the State of Mexico in the cultural field, such as the construction of the second stage of the Music Conservatory, the creation of the National Film Archive of the State and meetings as important as the Festival of Souls, which coverage at a state level reaches 80 percent of its municipalities, Antonio Crestani said that culture is a fundamental element, hence the importance of carrying out activities that promote access and enjoyment of art and culture.

 The Secretary of Culture of the State of Mexico, Eduardo Gasca Pliego, said at press conference that the artistic celebration will be spread for 100 towns having a total investment of 25.7 million pesos, of which 18.2 million pesos come from the federation, through the Department of Culture.

 The official stressed the program of the XIV Festival of Souls, which has great prestige and artistic excellence, bringing together for 14 years the best of tradition and modernity.

The opening of the meeting will be in charge of the Mexican tenor Javier Camarena and during the artistic gathering the Second State Competition of Crisantemos Pirotécnicos (Chrysanthemums Pyrotechnics) will be held in Valle de Bravo, in addition to the parade and monumental exhibition of Mexiquense Souls, popular verbena, offerings, workshops and a wide artistic offer, Gasca Pliego said.

 The Festival of Poets is part of the program, as well as the Typical Orchestra of Yucatan, Aida Cuevas y Rock sinfónico en tu idioma (Symphonic rock in your language), which joins different bands of the eighties combining their top hits with a symphony orchestra, among many other activities.

 Within the celebrations of the Festival of Souls it will be held the Day of the Dead feast –included in the List of Oral and Intangible Heritage of UNESCO in 2003- that in the course of Mexico’s history has based as a deeply rooted celebration in tradition, giving color and variety to the schedule of the gathering.
