Passacaglia, by Leopold Godowsky; The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Paul Dukas, and Now 1, by Matthias Pintscher, are some of the works to be released during the International Piano Festival, Black & White.

The details of these premieres and the schedule of the festival were presented by Ricardo Calderon Figueroa, general director of the National Center of Arts (Cenart, for its acronym in Spanish) and Lázaro Azar, pianist, music critic and art curator of the event.

The International Piano Festival,  Black & White celebrates its 20th anniversary with 20 recitals, where 21 renowned pianists coming from Korea, Canada, Cuba, Bulgaria, Italy, Russia, UK, Spain, Australia, United States and Mexico will participate in the event.

Parallel to these concerts, it will be held a series of complementary activities, called Artefacto, made up of talks, workshops and listening sessions, as well as Pianistas, a film series consisted of 10 films that addresses the world of piano and outstanding performers.

Among the activities that are part of Artefacto, there are the talk, El piano va al cine (The piano goes to the movies), the listening session of Alberto Nosè and the projection of the movies, Chopin, un amor imposible (Chopin, an impossible love); The piano, Grand piano, The pianist and La cambiadora de páginas (The exchanger of pages).

“It will be a widespread festival with an attractive and accessible offer and an endless palette of colors. A program of dissemination and understanding of what the piano is as an artifact started in August. For this edition we have made a series of activities that have analyzed the instrument to understand its mechanism and evolution and how some of the greatest pianists have played some pieces”, Ricardo Calderón Figueroa, said.

According to Lázaro Azar, the concert program will consist of works that represent the most beloved, varied, contrasting and wide of the piano literature.

"The piano has been the most beloved instrument by the people in Mexico and being the one that has the greatest literature as an instrument, the first condition for our guests was not to repeat a work, so this year the public could listen to pieces that we rarely or have never had the chance to listen in Mexico”, he said.

The artistic director said that this year aims to balance the presence of national and foreign men and women artists, so the public will enjoy the fabulous presentation of five Mexicans: Jorge Federico Osorio, Fernando Garcia Torres, Rodolfo Henkel Guerrero, César Reyes and Arturo Nieto.

In addition to the presentation of remarkable women: SetaTanyel (Armenia-Turkey), Sara Davis Buechner (Canada), Maria Tretyakova (Russia), Rosa Torres-Pardo (Spain) and the special performance by Duo Guevara-Zhelezova (Mexico-Bulgaria) .

Also, great experienced, renowned and emerging talented young people with instrumental maturity will be presented: Ji (Korea-US), Santiago Rodríguez (Cuba-United States), Evgeny Genchev (Bulgaria) and Jeffrey Swann and Matthew Graybil (United States) .
