The exhibition space is one of the most famous and emblematic halls in Berlin, located in the area where the Brandenburg Gate, the Potsdamer Platz and the Tiergarten forest are.

The Mayans. The language of beauty has been one of the most important Mexico’s exhibitions shown abroad during the year, including little-known pieces and creations that are part of a large collection that had not been exhibited before.

The 300 archaeological pieces collection that describe the conception of the ideal of beauty that this ancient civilization had, through which the German public could admire key pieces in the history of this culture.

The exhibition was possible by the contribution of twenty museums of Campeche, Chiapas, Tabasco, Quintana Roo and Yucatan, with an unprecedented effort.

The selection of pieces was led by Karina Romero Blanco, who conceived the exhibition as a mosaic of styles and temporalities that allowed to enter the Mayan worldview very effectively, in addition to the appreciation of the most distinctive features of this people, owner of a complex iconographic program, a deep understanding of nature and a developed social structure.

Through this exhibition, we tried to present the Mayan universe to understand the links that existed between the body, spirituality and the cosmogony of civilization. The exhibit was divided in thematic pillars, showing a tour of several temporalities, from the objects created in 100 B.C. to elaborated pieces dating back to 1200 A.D.
