The Night Work / Open Wound exhibition created in artistic residence will be opened

July 28, 2016

The Fundación Sebastian A.C. has organized the Post Residencia: Night Work / Open Wound exhibition, which will open on Thursday July 28th presenting artists Zac Roach’s and Jocelyn Casa’s works. The display will showcase the visual work produced during La Soledad, the international residencies program of the Fundación Sebastián, which aims to promote artistic stays, courses, conferences, workshops and exchanges between Mexican and foreign visual artists.

These works are the culmination of the two artists who are students nominated for the MFA program of the OTIS school, College of Art & Design in Los Angeles, California.

In the Night Work work, Zac Roach assumes the role of an anthropologist. For days and nights of work he gathered waste materials recycling them to create new works. These remaining works are translated into a record of Roach’s experience in Mexico.

The work finds its climax in the integration of references from pop culture and antiquity, creating an autobiographical narrative of the body and art history.

Open Wound by Jocelyn Casas, is a selection of works based on the complexity of imperialism lived by a chicana. The artist explores the confusion of movement and nationality followed by the desire for reconciliation. She immerses herself in a social political conflict as a means of survival, preservation and reinvention of her own identity as a Mexican American.

Through experiences with the composition, cause and effect, Jocelyn Casas observes the progression of time as a form of production, and sees it as an interchangeable tool in her work. By using her own visual language, she uses the cause and effect to help the process, the invention and development of her work. Language is constructed using geometry, and color and texture as dimensionality and narrative.

The Night Work / Open Wound exhibition will open on Thursday July 28th at 19:00 in the Fundación Sebastian, Avenida Patriotismo No. 304, Colonia San Pedro de los Pinos. Simultaneously, the Second Nature photo exhibition by David Dahlhaus that remained open since last May 12th will close.
