Agustín Arteaga will be appointed Director of the Dallas Museum of Art from September 1st

After an international selection process by the Board of Directors of the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA), Agustín Arteaga has been appointed Director Eugene McDermott, from September 1st, when he will leave his position as director of the National Museum Art (Munal, for its acronym in Spanish).

 It is an honor for the Department of Culture that a director who has worked for 30 years in Mexican museums, especially those attached to the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA, for its acronym in Spanish), has been chosen to lead the DMA, considered among the most important 10 art museums in the United States.

 The collection of the DMA includes over 23,000 works and covers 5,000 years of history, with a full representation of the cultures of the world. The museum, located in the biggest district art of the American nation, receives over 650,000 visitors annually.

 Agustín Arteaga is an architect by the Autonomous Metropolitan University (UAM, for its acronym in Spanish) and Doctor of Art History at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM, for its acronym in Spanish).

The current Director of the National Museum of Art, started his museum career as Deputy Director of the Museum of Modern Art. Later, he served as national coordinator of INBA Visual Arts and Director of the Palace of Fine Arts Museum, in which he presented successful exhibitions such as Lichtenstein, Warhol, Spain XX century; Buñuel. The look of the century, Camille Claudel, etc.

In 1999 he was appointed founding Director of the Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires (Malba, for its acronym in Spanish) in Argentina. From 2004 to 2013 he served as Director of the Museo de Arte de Ponce in Puerto Rico.

He is currently Director of the National Museum of Art, which has the most emblematic collection of Mexican art in our country. Since his appointment in 2013, Agustín Arteaga has developed a plan to renovate the museum and its rooms, and has organized major national and international exhibitions such as The Naked Man, Landscapes of the Mind, I, the King! and The Moderns, of which he is co-curator, along with Dr. Sylvie Ramond, director of the Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon, France

 Agustín Arteaga is an active member in the international museum community. He is a member of the AAMD (Association of Art Museum Directors) and member of the Bizot Group.
