June 10, 2016

Mexican artist Marcela Lobo’s visual proposal (Mexico City, September 12, 1959) arrived in Warsaw, Poland, with Reading the past, an exhibit that reflects the complex simplicity of the world.

The exhibition was inaugurated on June 9th by the artist and Mexican Ambassador in Poland, Alejandro Negrin, in the Ogród rzeźb Juan Soriano (Sculptural Garden Juan Soriano), an open area with a gallery that showcases 43 object art boxes where the artist recorded like in a diary her experiences and feelings, revealing part of her past and present in them.

The object boxes were created by Marcela Lobo with pieces from antique shops, including dolls, photographs, keys, plastic toys, mannequin heads, fabrics, dresses, cards, tea sets, bottles, medicines, shoes and costumes, mainly.

While creating the pieces, these objects transported the artist to pleasant and unpleasant moments of her life. According to Marcela Lobo, who see the exhibition can make their stories with different boxes. "Each box tells its story, but each person can make their own history”.

Last 2015, this assembly was hosted at the Juan Soriano Gallery of the National Arts Center (Cenart, for its acronym in Spanish), from May 7th to August 9th, where over seven thousand people saw it.

Some of the series that can be seen in Warsaw are: Lost Innocence, Time passes, Happy Years, I married three times, Complaints are not accepted, Weight control, Broken dreams, Growing up, Who am I?, There’s no turning back, Pharmacy boutique, In the 60s there were no blackouts every day, Some of the fine arts, Trips illustrate, Tremors, The son who did not come, Board games.

Marcela Lobo has a 30 year career, during which she has exhibited her work in various states of Mexico, as well as in France, Portugal, United States and Guatemala

Reading the past will remain at the Juan Soriano Sculpture Garden in Warsaw, Poland, until September, and then will arrive in Italy.
