Mexico will participate in the most important book fairs of Germany under the Dual Year·

Mexico's participation in Germany's most prestigious book fairs (including Frankfurt which is the most important worldwide), whose central mission will be to build bridges of cooperation between different representatives (publishers, translators and writers, mainly) of the editorial chain of both countries. The above, along with the projection of the Mexican art book, are part of the activities organized by the General Directorate of Publications (DGP, for its acronym in Spanish) of the Department of Culture of the Federal Government, within the activities of the Mexico-Germany Dual Year 2016.

 Writers such as Carmen Boullosa, Álvaro Enrigue, Luis Felipe Fabre and Julián Herbert are part of the list of Mexican guests for the activities to be organized in the different events that will take place in the European nation.

 Our country’s program on German soil will start on Friday June 3rd at the Poesiefestival Berlin 2016, where Luis Felipe Fabre will participate at Night of Poetry, opening event of the gathering, in which together with authors such as Charles Simic (Serbia/USA), Rasha Omran (Syria), Gerhard Falkner (Germany) and Ana Blandiana (Romania), will show in a concert of voices and languages the richness of contemporary poetry. Two days later, the Mexican author will have a talk on Sunday 5th with writer and literary critic Ricardo Domeneck (Brazil), to discuss the characteristics of his poetry and his career as an essayist, academic and editor.

 Meanwhile, Julian Herbert will participate on Friday, June 10th, in the show of poetry and electronics  El Congo Allen & Friends, together with the poet Jessie Kleemann (Greenland) and the musicians Kelvin Sholar (United States), Ryo Fujimoto (Japan) Jimi Tenor (Finland) and Cuban percussionist and trumpeter, El Congo Allen.

At the Berlin Art Book Fair, Miss Read: The Berlin Art Book Fair, an important event in the field of independent publishing of art and design books and self-published and artist books, to be held from June 10th to 12th, nearly twenty publishers will be present who will display their publications and risográficos (funny graphics) projects and will come into contact with the German and European editors specialized in this editorial work.

Aeromoto, Casa del Hijo del Ahuizote, Catálogo Contemporáneo, Cooperativa Cráter Invertido, Instantánea Edition, Acapulco Editions, Estridentes Editions, Hungría Editions, Joc Doc Editions, La Cigarra Editions, Fotocopioteca, Fuck Zines, Gato Negro Editions, Hormiguero, Institute of Graphic Arts Oaxaca (IAGO, for its acronym in Spanish), Libros Fantasma, Planeta Gris Editions, Taller de Ediciones Económicas and The Piracy Project, make up the list of publishers who will be present at the meeting and whose work has especially interested the mentioned fair.

At the Frankfurt International Book Fair, the most important in the world for selling copyright, to be held from October 19th to 23rd , the Department of Culture, with the support of the organizers of the fair, the Goethe Institute, the National Chamber of the Mexican Publishing Industry (Caniem, for its acronym in Spanish) and the Department of Foreign Affairs, will offer a special program for professionals with a delegation of about a dozen editors who will hold interviews and exchanges with their German counterparts. In addition, a stand of 144 square meters with a representative show of the editorial production of our country will be installed.

Finally, as part of the Dual Year Mexico-Germany, the second most important fair of the nation, the Leipzig Book Fair 2017, will take place from March 23rd to 27th with the participation of Mexican writers and translators.

 It is a direct selling fair, in which over 2,200 exhibitors will participate with new presentations, readings, interviews and meetings with authors, and an extensive program for professionals in several venues of the city. Alvaro Enrigue and Carmen Boullosa, authors whose work has been translated into German, and national renowned translators will be part of the guests of the Leipzig’s great book party, where at the same time, the largest reading festival in Europe, the Leipzig Liest, and the Manga-Comic-Convention will take place.

 In Mexico, Germany will be the guest of honor of the International Children and Youth Book Fair (FILIJ, for its acronym in Spanish), in its 44th edition, scheduled from Nov 11th to 21st at Parque Bicentenario. Writers, illustrators, editors, reading promoters, an exhibition on illustration, film and artistic activities such as music and puppets, will be part of the German offer.

 The execution of activities for professionals, general public and dedicated to children, will be the task of each of the German guests who will participate in the 44th FILIJ, in which list are already the illustrator and children's book author Sebastian Meschenmoser, winner awards as the Pluma de Plata 2008, and the editor and creator of the Alfaguara and Siruela collection of children's literature Michi Strausfeld, awarded the Order of Isabel la Catolica 2009 and the Grand Cross of the Civil Order of Alfonso X El Sabio in 2016, in recognition of her efforts to promote the Spanish language, Latin American literature and reading habits.

In addition, the German publishing house Union Verlag will bring an anthology of narrative Mexico 20, which includes literary proposals of twenty of the most prominent Mexican writers under 40.
