Miguel de Cervantes is celebrated with a dramatized reading of Don Quixote

The hilarious passages and some reflections of Don Quixote came to the Xavier Villaurrutia Literary Creation Center in a dramatized reading in lectern theater, with the voice of the three of the actors of the company El laboratorio del método (The Method Lab): Aldo de la O, Celia Huertas and Anuar Aiza.

Under Raúl Farell’s direction, the audience made up of young people and adults enjoyed the interpretation of fragments of Don Quixote, considered the first modern novel in Spanish literature, which were adapted for the presentation, which was part of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra 400 years, season.

The performers, characterized with masks and wigs gave life to chapters of the first part of this literary work: XXIV Of the famous adventure of the enchanted boat, XLIII The second set of advice that Don Quixote gave to Sancho Panza and LXXI Of what happened to Don Quixote with his squire Sancho on the way to their village, recreating in 60 minutes part of Cervantes’s most famous work.

 In the histrionic Aiza Anuar’s opinion, who was the narrator in the staging, Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra is one, but the most important authors worldwide.

 "We are here to commemorate the fourth centenary of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra’s death. Although he had a difficult life, he was in the war, was a tax collector, lost arm mobility, that did not stop him from writing this work, The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote de la Mancha”, he said.

In order to establish contact with the visual and auditory senses of the public and help their imaginative process, the interpreters modulated their voice, made bodily movements and rose their look, capturing in full attention of those present, who paid attention to the act.

According to actor and director Raúl Farell, Cervantes Saavedra had such a great genius that considers he was born to write this work leaving a legacy of content and form about human beings, their struggle for the understanding of the human condition and its existence, therefore he believes it will always be a current play.

El Laboratorio del método (The Method Lab) , which Raúl Farell is the CEO, was created a decade ago for dramatic artists’s and stage directors’s needs in order to have a space in which they could develop a continuous practice; explore different processes, modes and scenic concepts, and train creators in the field of drama.

It also has established itself as a theater company and has shown its results over the years of practice and research; spreading its commitment with the performing arts for the general public and encourage this enjoyment for this living art.

 Within the Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra 400 years, season, El Laboratorio del Método (The Method Lab) will offer a third and final presentation in lectern theater with Don Quixote on Wednesday May 18th, at 19:00, at the Xavier Villaurrutia Literary Creation Center located in Avenida Nuevo León No. 91, Colonia Hipódromo Condesa.
