Michael Nyman will be accompanied by the Cuerdas de Yucatán International Quartet, group founded in Merida in 2011, to performance live the soundtrack of the film which also was composed by the British musician and with the aim of showing the public the world of classical music, cultivating a perceptive, demanding, appreciative and adventurous audience.

Empresa Cines Merida is an audiovisual piece directed by Michael Nyman, edited by Max Pugh  and commissioned by Claudia Madrazo and La vaca independiente, with the intention to make the world aware about the fragility in which the cultural heritage currently is and the importance of its preservation.

The film is inspired by the discovery of a series of photographs found in the Pedro Guerra Photo Archive in Merida, Yucatan, showing the process of deterioration of the photographic material.

Grace Quintanilla, director of the Digital Culture Center, said that the British composer selected a series of images of the photographic archive of Merida for this project in order to make a multimedia composition that addresses the Yucatecan culture, the production of henequen, the Maya monuments, the carnivals of the region and the ballgame.

The appointment for this recital and the premier of Empresa Cines Merida is on Saturday March 19 at 20:00 pm at the entrance of the Digital Culture Center, located between Reforma and Lieja, at the foot of the Estela de Luz (memorial). Admission is free.
